Small things you can do every day to support your mental health - H!P Chocolate

Taking care of your mental health is inevitably important every day of the year, but World Mental Health Day should serve as an extra reminder that supporting your own mental health should always be a priority. Repeat after me: self-care isn't selfish

While there is no quick fix, no one-size-fits-all solution or trick, there are things that have been proven to help boost your mood, encourage a positive mindset and manage day-to-day stresses. There’s no health without mental health.

Talk to someone

One of the most effective ways to feel better is to speak about what is making you stressed, anxious, worried or upset. Talk it out, share the load and don’t bottle it up. Sometimes just saying it out loud can make you feel calmer.

Stay active

Exercising isn’t just good for your body: it’s also great for your brain. Regular exercise - and this doesn’t mean you have to do sweaty HIIT classes or 10k runs all the time - can have a really positive impact on your mental health, relieving stress and aiding sleep. Get those endorphins going and reap the benefits.

Find something that relaxes you

It might be yoga, meditation or mindfulness, or it might just be a long walk followed by a hot bath. We’re all different and what works for one person may not work for you. Trial and error and find a practice that makes you feel calm.

Make time for yourself

It may be easier said than done, but you should never be too busy to take some time for yourself. Section off time everyday - even if some days it’s only ten minutes - to relax, quiet your mind and take a break from your to-do list.

Make sleep a priority

Never underestimate the power of a good sleep schedule. Sleeping allows our body and mind to recharge and rejuvenate, and being well rested can help keep your emotional health in check and make you prepared to tackle challenges.

Celebrate the small stuff

Small wins are still wins. Celebrate every achievement and every positive in your day, no matter how small it may seem to you. Ticked off another task on your to-do list? Celebrate it. Did your white laundry without everything turning pink? Time to celebrate. Found a new song you love? Let’s get celebrating.
